From overseas qualifications to Australian registration

Programs · Overseas-qualified pathway

If you trained as a psychologist overseas and your qualifications have been assessed as equivalent to a six-year sequence of study, you are closer to general registration in Australia than you might think. COPP's Transitional Registration Program is a clear, supported pathway — pairing experienced supervisors with NPE preparation and study groups to help you bridge the Australian ethical, legal, cultural and professional-practice differences and step into local practice with confidence.

Who it's for

For internationally qualified psychologists seeking Australian registration.

This program is designed for psychologists who trained overseas and now want to practise in Australia. It's the right fit if you are:

  • An internationally qualified psychologist whose overseas qualifications have been assessed as equivalent to a six-year sequence of study.
  • Seeking general registration in Australia and looking for a structured, supported way to prepare.
  • Ready to bridge the Australian ethical, legal, cultural and professional-practice differences that come with practising here.
  • Preparing to sit the National Psychology Examination (NPE) and wanting experienced supervisors and study groups alongside you.

We are an educator, not a regulator. The assessment of whether your overseas qualifications are equivalent — and whether you are granted general registration — is determined by the Psychology Board of Australia. COPP supports your preparation; it does not assess qualifications. We always recommend confirming your individual equivalence and pathway directly with PsyBA.

How it works

A customisable plan, shaped around your background.

No two overseas pathways look the same, so we don't force a single syllabus on everyone. Your program is scoped at an initial interview and built around where you trained, the gaps you need to bridge, and the requirements you need to address for Australian practice.

Step 01

An initial conversation

We start by listening. You tell us where and how you trained, how your qualifications have been assessed, and where you'd like to practise. There's no obligation — just an honest look at what the transition involves for you.

Step 02

A customised plan

From that conversation we design an individualised plan: the supervision, NPE preparation, study groups and learning relevant to your situation. Scope and fees — starting from $4,000 — are confirmed together at this stage, in writing.

Step 03

Supported transition

You work through the plan with experienced, supervisor-led support and our PALS team alongside you — building the Australian practice knowledge and exam readiness you need, at a pace that respects the rest of your life.

What's included

Drawing on the full breadth of COPP.

Because the program is customisable, your plan may draw on any combination of the support COPP already delivers across the registration journey — assembled to match your background rather than a template.

  • Individual and group supervision with experienced, Board-approved supervisors from our national network.
  • NPE Boot Camp and exam preparation to get you ready for the National Psychology Examination.
  • Professional development workshops and e-learning modules covering Australian ethical, legal, cultural and professional-practice differences.
  • Study groups, placement-finding assistance and networking opportunities to help you settle into the Australian profession.
  • Dedicated PALS (Placement & Learning Support) for the whole journey — no question too big or too small.

Scope & fees

Starting from $4,000 — customised to what you actually need.

An internationally qualified psychologist arriving with extensive recent experience is in a very different position from someone who has been away from clinical work for years. Rather than publish a one-size-fits-all price, the program starts from $4,000 and the final scope and fee are customised and confirmed at your initial interview.

What "from $4,000, customised" means

After your first conversation we put a clear, written plan in front of you — what's included, how long it's likely to take, and exactly what it costs. There are no hidden extras and nothing to commit to until you've seen the full picture and decided it's right for you.

Questions

Common questions about transitional registration.

It's for internationally qualified psychologists whose overseas qualifications have been assessed as equivalent to a six-year sequence of study, who are seeking general registration in Australia. The program pairs experienced supervisors with NPE preparation and study groups to help you bridge the Australian ethical, legal, cultural and professional-practice differences. We always recommend confirming your own equivalence and pathway directly with the Psychology Board of Australia.
No. COPP is an educator, not a regulator. We do not assess overseas qualifications and we do not register psychologists — assessing equivalence and granting general registration are the role of the Psychology Board of Australia under AHPRA. Our program prepares and supports you; it is preparation only, not a credential or a qualifying step in itself.
The program starts from $4,000 and is customisable. Because the supervision, NPE preparation and learning you need depends on your background, we scope your plan and confirm the final fee at your initial interview, in writing, before you commit to anything.
Depending on your plan, the program can include individual and group supervision, NPE Boot Camp and exam preparation, professional development workshops, e-learning modules, study groups, placement-finding assistance, networking opportunities, and dedicated support from the PALS (Placement & Learning Support) team throughout.
Yes. COPP began in Sydney and now operates nationally. Supervision and live sessions are scheduled across all Australian time zones, and our supervisor network spans the country, so you can take part wherever you live.
