National 4+2 Psychologist Registration Program

Programs · 4+2 completion pathway

Getting you to the finish line.

You've already started your 4+2 internship — now let's complete it. COPP's National 4+2 Program is built for provisional psychologists who have commenced the 4+2 pathway and want to finish their supervised hours and attain general registration as efficiently as possible.

With Board-approved supervision, focused exam preparation and a team that knows the pathway inside out, you don't have to navigate the home stretch alone.

Important — please read first

This program is only for psychologists already on the 4+2 pathway.

AHPRA closed the 4+2 internship pathway to new applicants on 30 June 2022. Because of that, this program is for provisional psychologists who have already commenced a 4+2 internship — not for people who are yet to begin one.

  • You are a provisional psychologist who started your 4+2 internship before it closed to new applicants.
  • You want to complete your remaining supervised practice and attain General Registration as efficiently as possible.
  • You're looking for Board-approved supervision and structured exam preparation to carry you over the line.
  • If you have not already commenced a 4+2 internship, this pathway is closed to you — speak with us about the 5+1 internship instead.

We are an educator, not a regulator. Whether and when you attain general registration is determined by the Psychology Board of Australia. Our role is to help you complete your internship requirements and prepare with confidence.

How it works

A plan shaped around where you are in your internship.

No two interns reach us at the same point. Some have hundreds of hours still to log; others are close and need focused exam preparation. Your program is scoped at an initial interview and built around what you have left to complete.

Step 01

An initial conversation

We start by listening. You tell us where you are in your 4+2 — how many hours you've logged, where you're working, and what's left to finish. There's no obligation and no pressure, just an honest look at the road to the finish line.

Step 02

A scoped, bespoke plan

From that conversation we design an individualised plan: the supervision, learning and exam preparation you need to complete your remaining requirements. Scope and fees are determined together at this stage.

Step 03

Supported completion

You work through your remaining hours with live, supervisor-led support and our PALS team alongside you — then move into NPE Boot Camp exam preparation to carry you over the line to general registration.

What's included

Everything you need to finish, in one place.

Because the program is bespoke, your plan draws on the full breadth of support COPP delivers across the registration journey — assembled around the requirements you still have to complete.

  • Expert supervision — individual and group supervision with Board-approved supervisors from our national network.
  • Learning Essentials — structured education to strengthen the competencies your internship requires.
  • NPE Boot Camp — focused National Psychology Examination preparation when you're ready for the exam.
  • Assessment Task & Case Report support — guidance through the written components of your internship.
  • The PALS team — dedicated Placement & Learning Support for the whole journey, no question too big or too small.

The 4+2 in numbers

The hours behind the pathway.

The 4+2 internship totals 3,000 hours of structured experience. We help you complete what remains — logging your practice, meeting your supervision requirements, and building toward the National Psychology Examination.

What 3,000 hours looks like

Across the two-year internship, the 3,000 hours break down into supervised psychological practice, formal supervision, and professional development. Wherever you are in that journey, we scope your remaining requirements with you at interview.

Scope & fees

Bespoke by design — so we don't quote a number we can't honour.

An intern with hundreds of hours still to log is in a very different position from one who is nearly finished and only needs exam preparation. Rather than publish a price that fits no one, we calculate your fees based on your needs as discussed at interview.

What "fees set at interview" means

After your first conversation we put a clear, written plan in front of you — what's included, how long it's likely to take, and exactly what it costs. There are no hidden extras and nothing to commit to until you've seen the full picture and decided it's right for you.

No. AHPRA closed the 4+2 internship pathway to new applicants on 30 June 2022. The 4+2 internship totals 3,000 hours: 2,720 hours of psychological practice, 160 hours of supervision and 120 hours of professional development. We help you complete whatever portion of those hours you have left, and we scope your remaining requirements with you at interview.
No. COPP is an educator, not a regulator. We do not register psychologists. General registration is granted solely by the Psychology Board of Australia under AHPRA. Our program supports you to complete your internship requirements and prepare for the National Psychology Examination — it is preparation only, not a credential or a qualifying step in itself.
Because the program is genuinely bespoke. How much supervision, learning and exam preparation you need depends on how far through your internship you are. Fees are calculated based on your needs as discussed at interview, in writing, before you commit to anything.
Yes. COPP began in Sydney and now operates nationally. Supervision and live sessions are scheduled across all Australian time zones, and our supervisor network spans the country, so you can take part wherever you live.
