College Regulations

COPP Home
The following regulations should be read by all interns prior to signing their Supervision Contract. The College Board reserves the right to change these regulations without notice as it sees fit.

1. Entry to the College requires the intern to have completed four (4) years of Psychology in accordance with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board requirements.

2. Application must be made on the College application form with accompanying photographs.

3. Before acceptance the candidate for intern placement must attend an assessment centre. Where the candidate is not accepted, vocational counselling will be given..

4. The Board of Directors will set fees for the two years of the course from time to time. Accepted candidates will pay four semester fees in advance of each six months. They will be provided with a Supervision Contract and a Logbook. The College will undertake supervision with a panel of experienced supervisors. Those who insist on nominating the supervisor will pay a fee equal to half the 6 monthly fee.

5. The College will forward the Supervision Contract to the Psychologists Registration Board. [interns are advised to complete these formalities rapidly to ensure that they have conditional registration status that will enable them to work as an intern. The Board has a heavy agenda and meets only monthly.]

6. The intern may begin the practicum series at a mutually convenient time. The cycle of practicums must be completed over two (2) years to ensure the requisite certificates of competence. Interns are advised to keep the College informed of anything likely to disrupt the course as soon as they are aware of difficulties.

7. Interns must be financial by paying in advance of each half year.

8. Where interns wish to withdraw from the course they must provide notice in writing three full months in advance. No certificates of competence will be awarded for practicums completed or partially completed in that semester. Variation will be possible in cases of difficult circumstances. Where the intern is moving to another suprvisor and documentation is to be provided by the College to that supervisor and/or the Registration Board, a processing fee of up to $250 may be charged.

9. In accordance with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board requirements, the College will provide Certificates of Competence in the following provided the intern has completed the required practicums:

Certificate No.1: Ethical, Legal & Professional Matters.

Certificate No 2: Assessment & Measurement.

Certificate No 3: Service Delivery.

Certificate No 4: Communication.

Certificate No 5: Professional Development.

Note: Until 2005, there were 7 Certificates, which covered the same ground as the 5 Certificates in 2006.

10. Exemptions may be requested by interns who have considerable experience in some particular area. Applications, addressed to the College Board, must be made in writing at least six (6) weeks before the commencement of the practicum for which exemption is sought.

11. Individual practicums, leading to specific certificates, may be done separately but will be priced at a higher rate. The College will quote the cost in advance.

12. Where an intern partially completes the course no certificates will be issued unless the intern was fully financial at the time in which the relevant practicums were conducted and had fulfilled obligations under regulation 8.

13. If an intern is not financial and has not complied with the College's requirements (regulations 8,10,12), the College will notify the Psychologists Registration Board of its discontinuation of supervision (mentoring).

14. Interns who fail to make satisfactory progress, for example, failure to submit assignments on time or failure to attend supervision sessions as scheduled, may be suspended or other appropriate action taken until the intern demonstrates satisfactory progress.

15. Expulsion from the College will occur after the intern has been warned in writing by the College Board. Grounds for expulsion will be:

• Intern has been found to be guilty of criminal acts after due process of law.

• Intern has been involved in activities which bring the College or the profession of psychology into disrepute.

No refund of fees will be made under these circumstances.

16. Where an intern is on leave from the College for 12 months or longer, fees on resumption of the College will be at the higher rate at the date of resumption.

17. New regulations made in the course of the semester will be notified in writing to interns currently in courses, at least three (3) months prior to their coming into force.
